Former assistant tells Congress Jeffrey Epstein abused her for years

Sarah Kellen told the House Oversight Committee that Jeffrey Epstein sexually and psychologically abused her for more than a decade.

Sarah Kellen appeared before the House Oversight Committee on Thursday and described years of alleged abuse by late financier Jeffrey Epstein during a closed-door hearing tied to the committee’s ongoing Epstein investigation.

In a prepared statement, Kellen said Epstein “groomed,” manipulated and abused her sexually and psychologically for years after she began working for him at age 21. She claimed the abuse became frequent and violent.

Kellen told lawmakers she was recruited while living in Hawaii and became financially and emotionally dependent on Epstein after a difficult divorce and isolation from her family and church community. She said Epstein used his wealth, influence and connections to control her and make her feel trapped.

The House Oversight Committee is investigating how federal authorities handled past investigations involving Epstein and his associates. Committee chairman James Comer said lawmakers wanted answers about Epstein’s operations and the people around him.

Kellen was previously identified in a 2007 non-prosecution agreement linked to Epstein but was never charged with a crime. She told the committee she was never interviewed by law enforcement before her name appeared in the agreement. She also said she considered herself a victim, not a co-conspirator.

Federal prosecutors previously reviewed whether to charge Kellen but ultimately declined. Internal Justice Department records released earlier this year reportedly acknowledged that she was also a victim of abuse by Epstein.

The committee is expected to continue hearing testimony from several high-profile witnesses as lawmakers prepare a final report on the Epstein investigation later this year.
