Bruno Fernandes breaks Premier League assist record

Bruno Fernandes set a new Premier League record with his 21st assist of the season against Brighton.

Bruno Fernandes has broken the Premier League record for the most assists in a single season after registering his 21st assist during Manchester United’s final league game against Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Manchester United captain delivered a corner that was headed home by Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, helping his side take the lead at the Amex Stadium. The assist moved Fernandes ahead of former record holders Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne, who both recorded 20 assists in a Premier League season.

Fernandes matched the long-standing record during Manchester United’s win over Nottingham Forest last week before making history on the final day of the campaign.

The Portugal international also won the Premier League Player of the Season award after leading United to Champions League qualification under manager Michael Carrick.

Manchester United closed the season strongly with a comfortable victory over Brighton as Fernandes capped off one of the best individual campaigns in Premier League history.
