Somali referee denied US entry ahead of FIFA World Cup

A Somali referee has reportedly been barred from entering the United States, adding to growing controversy surrounding the FIFA World Cup.

Somali referee Artan has been denied entry into the United States ahead of the tournament. Reports also indicate that some fan tickets for the World Cup group stage have been revoked.

The latest development has sparked criticism from football figures and supporters, with concerns growing over visa restrictions and travel issues.

Former England striker and football pundit Ian Wright described the situation as a “World Cup of chaos” in a video posted on Instagram. He criticised reports of denied entry for fans, players, officials, and journalists, alongside rising costs for tickets, accommodation, and transportation.

Wright questioned whether the situation reflects the spirit of football. He further said the issues are overshadowing what should be one of the world’s biggest sporting events.

The incident is likely to intensify scrutiny of World Cup organisation and travel policies as the tournament approaches.
