Godswill Akpabio, president of the Senate, says President Bola Tinubu’s reforms will transform Nigeria and leave a lasting impact on the country.
Akpabio spoke on Friday at the signing of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Act, 2026.
‘Part of your reforms’
Akpabio described the legislation as another milestone in Tinubu’s reform agenda.
He said the national assembly passed the bill to support the president’s vision for the country.
“This is part of your innovation, part of your intuition, part of your reforms for Nigeria,” he said.
“You have promised that under your tenure, by the time you are through, Nigeria will never be the same again.”
Says NIMC reforms already yielding results
Furthermore, the Senate president said the Ministry of Interior had already recorded progress in identifying criminals before the new law was signed.
According to him, the legislation would further strengthen those efforts.
“Even before assenting to this bill, the bill is already working,” he said.
“It has helped in identifying and picking up criminals at the point of entry.”
Commends stakeholders
Meanwhile, Akpabio congratulated Tinubu, the national assembly and officials of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) on the new law.
He also thanked the World Bank for supporting the initiative.
“Congratulations to the National Assembly for interpreting your vision,” he said.
“Congratulations to the Ministry of Interior and particularly our lady in NIMC for the work they are going to do in ensuring that this legislation is well implemented.”
“And for our partners, the World Bank, thank you for being a part of this history.”
