Court Grants Ex-CCT Chairman Danladi Umar ₦100 Million Bail

The former Code of Conduct Tribunal chairman will remain in custody until he meets his bail conditions.

A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has granted ₦100 million bail to former Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) Chairman, Danladi Umar, who is facing corruption and abuse of office charges.

Justice Peter Kekemeke ruled that Umar must provide one surety with a valid Certificate of Occupancy for property in Abuja. The court also ordered that he remain at the Kuje Custodial Centre until he fulfils the bail conditions.

The judge said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) failed to prove that Umar would interfere with witnesses. The prosecution had argued that many of the witnesses were former CCT staff who worked under him.

The EFCC arraigned Umar on four counts of allegedly conferring undue advantage on himself while serving as CCT chairman. He pleaded not guilty to all charges. The court had earlier remanded him pending the hearing of his bail application.

The trial is expected to continue on a date to be fixed by the court.
