The Nigerian military says suspected ISWAP members and their families have surrendered while troops rescued several abductees during ongoing operations in the North-East.
The Headquarters of Operation HADIN KAI has announced that suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), along with members of their families, have voluntarily surrendered to troops operating in Nigeria’s North-East.
The military also confirmed that several abducted victims were rescued during separate search-and-rescue missions carried out across the theatre of operation. While the number of those rescued was not disclosed, the command said operations remain active as security forces continue to target terrorist hideouts and secure affected communities.
Operation HADIN KAI said the latest development reflects sustained military pressure on terrorist groups operating in the region. The command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that every abducted person is found and safely reunited with their families.
The military also issued a strong warning to individuals and businesses providing any form of support to terrorist groups. It said anyone supplying food, fuel, transportation, construction materials or other logistics to insurgents would be identified, arrested and prosecuted under Nigerian law.
The North-East has remained the centre of Nigeria’s counter-insurgency campaign against ISWAP and other extremist groups. Security forces have intensified offensive operations in recent months to weaken terrorist networks and encourage more defections.
Operation HADIN KAI says troops will continue search-and-rescue missions and offensive operations until all abductees are rescued and terrorist activities are brought to an end.
