New framework aims to modernise tax administration
The Nigeria Revenue Service, in collaboration with the Joint Revenue Board, has announced a new Taxpayer Identification system for all taxable persons in the country.
The agency disclosed the development in a public notice shared on its X handle on Monday.
According to the notice, the reform follows provisions contained in Sections 6, 7, and 8 of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025.
Tax ID to become single taxpayer identity
The revenue agency said the new Tax ID would serve as a unified identity for taxpayers nationwide.
Officials explained that the system would allow smoother interaction with federal and state tax authorities.
“The Tax ID will serve as a single, unified identity for all taxpayers,” the agency stated.
The framework also aims to consolidate taxpayer records and eliminate duplication across agencies.
Government targets easier tax compliance
The Nigeria Revenue Service said the initiative would simplify tax registration, filing, and payment procedures.
Authorities believe the digital system will improve efficiency in tax administration and service delivery.
The agency added that the platform would strengthen transparency and accountability in tax collection.
New system to replace existing TIN validation process
Officials confirmed that the new Tax ID framework would replace the current Tax Identification Number Validation API used by Ministries, Departments, Agencies, and financial institutions.
The agency directed organisations requiring integration services to contact the Standardisation and Modernisation Department of the Joint Revenue Board.
Corporate entities seeking validation services must also contact the Tax Automation Department of the revenue agency for guidelines.
Reform targets stronger digital tax ecosystem
The government said the new framework forms part of wider efforts to modernise Nigeria’s tax system through digital technology.
Authorities also expect the platform to reduce revenue leakages and improve data harmonisation across all levels of government.
The agency noted that the initiative would support better visibility and tracking of taxpayer records nationwide.
