President Bola Tinubu has appointed Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as minister of foreign affairs following the resignation of Yusuf Tuggar.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, said Tuggar stepped down to participate in the 2027 elections.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

Meanwhile, Tinubu nominated Sola Enikanolaiye as minister of state for foreign affairs, subject to Senate confirmation.

Until his nomination, Enikanolaiye served as senior special assistant to the president on foreign affairs and international relations.

He is a career diplomat with over three decades of service. He has also served as permanent secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Enikanolaiye has held diplomatic postings in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London and New Delhi.

According to the presidency, the appointments form part of efforts to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy architecture.

The statement said the move will strengthen strategic engagement and deepen global partnerships.

Tinubu congratulated the appointees and urged them to promote Nigeria’s national interest.

He also asked them to advance economic diplomacy, support regional stability and protect the welfare of Nigerians at home and abroad.
