The government of Togo has scrapped visa requirements for citizens of African countries visiting the country for short stays, in a move aimed at boosting regional integration.
The Ministry of Security announced the policy on Tuesday in a statement posted on its official X account.
30-Day Visa-Free Entry for Africans
Under the new rule, African nationals with valid passports can now enter Togo without a visa for stays of up to 30 days.
The ministry said the policy reflects efforts to promote free movement and strengthen cooperation across the continent.
“Togo takes a historic step in strengthening African integration,” the statement read. It added that the reform will make the country “a space of openness, mobility, opportunities, and cooperation.”
Travel Declaration Still Required
Despite the visa waiver, travellers must still complete an online travel declaration before arrival. The ministry said applicants must submit the form at least 24 hours before entry to obtain a travel slip.
Officials said the measure will help improve border management while maintaining smoother entry procedures for visitors.
Push for Regional Integration
Togo said the policy supports wider African integration efforts and aligns with initiatives aimed at improving trade, tourism, and mobility within the continent.
The country now joins others, including Rwanda, which recently adopted a similar visa-free policy for African travellers.
Nigeria has also begun implementing a 30-day visa exemption for Rwandan citizens under a reciprocal arrangement.
