Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have arrested a suspected drug peddler in Kaduna and rescued two kidnapped victims in Sokoto State. The military said the operations also disrupted an attempt by terrorists to regroup after an attack in Sokoto.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday. According to the statement, the operations were conducted on September 12 and 13, 2026.
On September 12, troops of Sector 1 intercepted a suspect during a stop-and-search operation along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road. The suspect, identified as Yohana Musa, was allegedly found with a large quantity of illicit drugs and other substances. Musa was reportedly travelling to Birnin Gwari when he was arrested. He and the recovered items remain in military custody for further investigation.

A Separate Operation
The following day, troops of Sector 2 responded to a distress call over a terrorist attack at Unguwan Lalle in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The troops engaged the attackers with firepower, forcing them to withdraw while rescuing two kidnapped victims.
The military said troops later received information that the terrorists were attempting to regroup. They quickly mobilised to the area and re-established contact with the assailants, leading to another fierce gun battle. The terrorists were again forced to retreat. During a search of the area, troops recovered 157 rounds of PKT ammunition, phone batteries and other items.
The Theatre Commander commended the troops for their gallantry and professionalism during the operations. He also reaffirmed the military’s commitment to preventing terrorists and other criminal groups from operating freely across the Joint Operations Area.
The military urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security forces to support ongoing operations.
