Trump Alleges Election Security Vulnerabilities Ahead of US Midterms

President Donald Trump has renewed claims of election fraud and foreign interference just months before the US midterm elections.

Trump used a White House address to repeat his election security claims, alleging that China interfered in the 2020 presidential election and that US voting systems remain vulnerable to foreign attacks. He said he had declassified intelligence files to support his allegations but did not provide public evidence during the speech.

The president also claimed that China obtained millions of US voter records and alleged that voter data in 18 states had been compromised. Previous assessments by the US intelligence community concluded that China did not interfere in the 2020 election.

Democrats reject the allegations

Democratic leaders accused Trump of trying to undermine public confidence in the electoral process ahead of the November midterm elections. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer insisted that American voters, not political leaders, decide election outcomes.

Trump also called on Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, which proposes stricter voter identification requirements, proof of citizenship for voter registration and limits on mail voting. The bill remains stalled in the Senate.

The renewed election security claims are expected to fuel debate over election integrity. Especially as the United States prepares for another major national vote.
