President Donald Trump says the US and Iran have reached an agreement that could restore oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.
President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that the United States and Iran have agreed to a deal that will reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
In a social media post, Trump said he had authorized the immediate removal of the US naval blockade. He also approved the toll-free reopening of the strait. He added that the agreement would allow global oil shipments to resume and improve regional stability.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed that an agreement had been finalized and is expected to be formally signed in Switzerland on Friday. He said Iran’s key demands and positions were included in the draft understanding.
The announcement follows weeks of tensions in the Middle East that disrupted shipping and raised concerns over global energy supplies. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the agreement, describing it as a step toward ending military operations across multiple fronts.
The deal is expected to be signed on Friday. Both sides expect it to pave the way for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
