The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has denied reports that it is in talks with the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) over a possible political alignment.
In a statement on Monday, Bolaji Abdullahi, national publicity secretary of the party, described the claim as false.
“Our attention has been drawn to a story that the ADC is in talks with the PRP. We state categorically that this is not true,” he said.
Abdullahi said the party’s coalition leadership is not holding discussions with any political party.
He added that the ADC is focused on its internal battle.
“We are fully committed to ensuring that the illegal action taken against our leadership by INEC and other agents of the ruling party is overturned,” he said.
Furthermore, the party said it will rely on the courts to resolve the dispute.
It said the judicial process remains the proper path to protect Nigeria’s multiparty democracy.
However, Abdullahi said the ADC remains open to collaboration.
He said the party is willing to expand its coalition to include opposition forces.
He, however, ruled out any plan to abandon the ADC platform.
“Any suggestion that we are considering abandoning the ADC is preemptive and speculative, and should be ignored,” he said.
Meanwhile, the statement follows comments by Hakeem Baba-Ahmed.
Speaking on Arise Television, Baba-Ahmed said some ADC members were considering joining the PRP.
In response, the ADC dismissed the claim and reaffirmed its position.
Finally, the party expressed confidence in the judiciary.
It said the courts will act independently and uphold democratic principles in the ongoing case.
