The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has denied reports that it is in discussions with the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) over a possible political alignment.
In a statement on Monday, Bolaji Abdullahi, national publicity secretary of the party, said the claim is false.
“Our attention has been drawn to a story… that the ADC is in talks with the PRP… We would like to state categorically that this is not true,” he said.
Abdullahi said the party’s coalition leadership is not engaged in any such conversation with any political party at the moment.
He added that the ADC remains focused on challenging what it described as “illegal actions” taken against its leadership.
“We are fully committed to ensuring that the illegal action taken against our leadership by INEC and other agents of the ruling party is upturned,” he said.
The party said it believes the judicial process remains the appropriate path to resolving the dispute and safeguarding Nigeria’s multiparty democracy.
Abdullahi, however, said the ADC is open to expanding its coalition to accommodate opposition forces, but is not considering abandoning its platform.
“Any suggestion that we are considering abandoning the ADC is preemptive and speculative, and should be ignored,” he said.
The statement comes after Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, speaking in an interview on Arise TV, said some ADC members were considering joining the PRP.
The ADC expressed confidence that the courts will act independently and uphold democratic principles in the ongoing legal dispute.
