England missed the chance to secure an early place in the World Cup knockout stage after a frustrating draw with Ghana.
England were held to a goalless draw by a disciplined Ghana side at Boston Stadium in their second Group L match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
A win would have guaranteed England a place in the last 32, but Thomas Tuchel’s team struggled to break down Ghana’s organised defence. England managed their first shot on target only after 57 minutes and were repeatedly threatened by Ghana’s counter-attacks.
Substitutes Bukayo Saka and Morgan Rogers were introduced to spark the attack, with Saka forcing a fine save from goalkeeper Benjamin Asare. Nico O’Reilly also struck the crossbar, while Marc Guehi saw a header cleared off the line.
England entered the match on the back of an impressive opening victory over Croatia but failed to reproduce the same attacking fluency. They were also fortunate to avoid a late penalty after defender Ezri Konsa brought down Prince Kwabena Adu inside the box.
The result leaves England top of Group L, but qualification for the knockout stage will now depend on their final group game against Panama.
England remain in control of their group, but their place in the last 32 is not yet guaranteed.
