Former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has retracted his recent criticism of pop star Chappell Roan, calling the situation a “misunderstanding” after a viral hotel incident in Brazil.
Last month, the 34-year-old Italian footballer claimed on Instagram that an employee of Roan had confronted his wife. Catherine Harding, and their 11-year-old daughter, Ada, during breakfast at a hotel in São Paulo. The incident occurred after Ada recognized the singer.
In response, Roan expressed sympathy for the mother and child. Saying she was “sad for them” and that they “did not deserve that.” However, she clarified that she was unaware of the incident. And that the security guard involved was not part of her personal team.
Jorginho has now confirmed that the security guard was not employed by Roan and stated that “the matter is now closed.”
In a new Instagram post, Jorginho explained, “The situation did happen as described, and we acted based on the information we had at the time.” He added that the security guard has since publicly confirmed he was representing another artist at the hotel.
“Chappell Roan made a public statement, reached out privately to Catherine, and our teams also spoke directly,” Jorginho shared. “It became clear that she had no knowledge of what happened at breakfast and had not instructed anyone to approach them. She was understanding and sympathetic to what our child experienced.”
Jorginho also addressed the security guard’s actions, saying. “While we still don’t know why he approached them. It’s clear that an 11-year-old could not reasonably be seen as a security threat. It’s now evident he was not acting on behalf of Chappell.”
He concluded, “This was ultimately a misunderstanding, and I’m glad to set the record straight. It’s important to me that this is clarified fairly and accurately. I regret the impact this situation has had on Chappell Roan, Catherine, Ada, and our family.”
Jorginho emphasized his commitment to protecting his family but acknowledged, “I also know when things aren’t quite what they seemed at first.”
