Agency Raises Alarm Over Designer Drug Packaging
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has urged parents and guardians to monitor suspicious sachets and packages found in their homes. The warning followed the recovery of illicit drugs worth more than N5.8bn from a mansion in Lekki, Lagos.
According to the agency, traffickers used the luxury property as a stash house for assorted narcotics. Investigators said the drugs came in colourful designer sachets aimed at attracting young people and teenagers.
In a statement shared on X on Sunday, NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, said operatives carried out the operation over the weekend. He explained that the raid prevented large quantities of illegal substances from reaching homes and communities.
“These are some of the items recovered from a mansion used as a stash house in Lekki Lagos where over N5.8 billion worth of illicit drugs were seized by NDLEA officers at the weekend,” Babafemi stated.
Furthermore, he warned families to remain alert and observant, especially when they discover unusual sachets or unfamiliar packages around children and teenagers.
“That’s the much saved from getting into our homes by those targeting our children with illicit substances packaged in designer sachets like the ones in these pictures,” he added.
NDLEA Urges Families to Seek Help Early
Meanwhile, the agency advised parents to seek immediate help if they notice suspicious materials linked to drug abuse in their homes.
“In case you see anything like this in your wastebasket at home, seek help for your young ones at home,” Babafemi said.
In recent years, the NDLEA has intensified campaigns against drug abuse among youths. The agency has also warned about the growing trend of narcotics packaged to resemble sweets, snacks, and other attractive consumer products.
As a result, officials believe traffickers now use deceptive branding and colourful packaging to lure young users into substance abuse.
The agency therefore called on families, schools, and community leaders to strengthen awareness efforts and support early intervention against drug addiction.
