Suspect in custody after gunfire incident at White House Correspondents’ Dinner

US President Donald Trump was rushed off stage on Saturday night after a suspect allegedly armed with multiple weapons charged a security checkpoint during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C..

According to the president, shots were fired during the incident, prompting an immediate security response. Trump and members of his Cabinet were safely evacuated from the venue.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect, now in custody, will face charges including use of a firearm during a violent crime and assault on a federal officer with a dangerous weapon. Jeanine Pirro, the US Attorney for the District of Columbia, disclosed the charges.

Law enforcement officials identified the suspect as a 31-year-old man from California.

Witnesses reported that the gunman opened fire near the venue, sending dozens of attendees scrambling for safety as security personnel moved in swiftly to contain the situation.

A member of the United States Secret Service was shot during the incident despite wearing protective gear and has been hospitalized, according to sources.

The situation was quickly brought under control, with authorities securing the area and launching an investigation into the attack.
