‘They privatised another man’s party’ — Tinubu mocks ADC

President Bola Tinubu has mocked the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying opposition figures in the coalition had merely “privatised another man’s political party.”

Tinubu spoke on Thursday in Abuja while receiving a delegation of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors led by Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo state, at the State House.

Taking a swipe at some opposition figures, particularly Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the president said some of those now in the coalition had questionable records in public office and had failed to deliver results where they once held responsibility.

“If you look at one of them, no one without history among these Calabasas, no one without history,” Tinubu said.

He said that Atiku had served as chairman of Nigeria’s privatisation council and questioned the outcome of past privatisation exercises, including the steel sector and Ajaokuta Steel Company.

“They privatised another man’s political party. That one said no,” he added.

Tinubu’s remark appeared to be a veiled reference to the adoption of the ADC by opposition politicians seeking to build a platform against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The president also used the occasion to defend his administration’s direction, saying his focus remained on the promises made to Nigerians and the reforms being pursued by the government.

He said his administration was realigning the economy to create opportunities for citizens and insisted he would not abandon that task despite criticism from the opposition.

“I promise I won’t let you down,” Tinubu said.
