Civil society organisation Tracka has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over the alleged spending of ₦296.4 million on an ICT and Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre at Claretian University in Imo State.
Tracka said the project formed part of a constituency intervention facilitated by Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi, who represents Imo East Senatorial District. The centre was commissioned in November 2025 and has 40 HP laptops.
Tracka Questions Use Of Public Funds
Tracka questioned the decision to spend public money on a facility at a private university. The group said the expenditure was difficult to justify amid infrastructure gaps in public schools, health facilities and roads across Imo State. According to the organisation, the location of the project raises questions about its wider benefit to taxpayers.
Tracka said the EFCC and ICPC should establish why the government funded the project at a private institution. It also wants the agencies to determine whether the project followed the required procurement process.
Group Seeks Probe Into Project
The organisation asked the anti-corruption agencies to examine the source of the funds and the process used to award the contract. It also called for an investigation into the project’s implementation. In addition, Tracka wants the agencies to establish who approved the project and why officials considered the location appropriate.
Tracka said checks on the Govspend portal confirmed the payment for the project. The group maintained that public funds should serve the public interest. It therefore urged the EFCC and ICPC to investigate the expenditure and make their findings known.
The organisation also stressed the need for greater transparency in the management of constituency projects and other government-funded programmes.
