United Kingdom and Finland issued a joint statement condemning attacks on journalists and media workers in Lebanon.

The statement followed the killing of journalist Amal Khalil, who died on Wednesday during an Israeli strike.

Both governments called on Israeli authorities and all parties involved to ensure that reporters in Lebanon can work freely and safely. The two countries serve as co-chairs of the Media Freedom Coalition.

The Israel Defense Forces said it is investigating the incident and repeated that it does not target journalists. The military added that it works to reduce harm to civilians while protecting its troops.

According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, at least seven journalists have been killed in Lebanon during recent Israeli attacks.

The latest condemnation adds to growing international pressure for stronger protection of journalists in conflict zones.
