Vice President Kashim Shettima says President Bola Tinubu is working tirelessly to secure the release of schoolchildren and teachers abducted by bandits and terrorists across the country.
Speaking to journalists after a special Jumat prayer held in Abuja ahead of the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, the vice-president assured Nigerians that the federal government remains committed to restoring peace and stability.
Shettima called on Nigerians to pray for the country and honour the sacrifices of those who fought for democratic rule.
“Our message to Nigerians is simple. Let’s pray for the peace and stability of this nation and acknowledge the sacrifices made by our past heroes for the enthronement of this democracy that we are all enjoying now,” he said.
“Let’s pray for the peace, stability and progress of this great nation.”
TINUBU IS WORKING TIRELESSLY
The vice-president said Tinubu remains focused on ensuring the safe return of victims currently being held by kidnappers.
“I want to assure Nigerians of President Bola’s unwavering commitment towards restoring peace and stability in the nation,” he said.
“He is working day and night to ensure the safe recovery of all our children who are in the hands of the bandits and the terrorists.”
His comments come amid nationwide concern over the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo and Borno states, which has triggered protests by labour unions, civil society groups and parents.
Shettima expressed confidence that the security challenges confronting the country would eventually be overcome.
“No matter how long the night is, it must give way to the light of the dawn,” he said.
“Stormy the weather might well be, but it won’t rain forever.”
He reiterated the government’s commitment to tackling insecurity and urged citizens to remain hopeful.
“The government remains irrevocably committed to restoring peace and stability in the nation,” he said.
“I want to thank Nigerians and urge them to pray for the nation and pray for each other because what binds us together is greater than what divides us.”
