Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), says he will continue to put political pressure on Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 elections.
Wike spoke on Friday in Abuja while discussing the state of opposition politics in Nigeria. He said the country currently has no strong opposition party. According to him, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should have played that role, but its internal crisis has weakened the party.
Wike Says Nigeria Has No Strong Opposition
Wike said opposition politicians were only trying to remain politically relevant. He argued that the PDP would ordinarily be the main opposition party. However, he said the party’s crisis had made it difficult for it to play that role.
“I have told you we have no opposition. What you have is people who are just trying to see whether they can be relevant. Who is the opposition leader? Ordinarily, it would have been PDP, but because of the crisis we have had, you can’t see a formidable party that you will call the leading opposition party,” Wike said.
The FCT minister then turned his attention to Atiku and Obi. He said he was not concerned about how the two opposition figures felt about his political attacks.
“So, whatever they [opposition] feel is not my business. I don’t want them to feel well. It is not my wish for them to feel well. My business is to make them not feel well all day, because they will be having high blood pressure. I guess that is my job — to make them have high blood pressure.
“I am not here to make them feel well. You see, when you are having a contest with somebody, your business is not to make him feel well. Your business is to make sure that you beat him thoroughly, and he will be sick all through.
“And that is what we are doing to them. So, how Atiku feels, how Obi feels, does not give me a headache. In fact, if I knew how they feel now, I would add more crises for them.”
Wike Continues Attacks On Atiku And Obi
Wike remains a member of the PDP but is supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid. He has also repeatedly criticised Atiku and Obi as the 2027 election approaches. For instance, Wike criticised Atiku on Thursday over his promise to restore the petrol subsidy if elected president.
The FCT minister described the former vice-president as “confused”. He also accused Atiku of saying anything that could help him win the presidency. Meanwhile, Wike attacked Obi in October 2025 over his presidential ambition. He described the former Anambra governor as a “social media presidential candidate.”
The latest comments further highlight the growing political rivalry between Wike and the opposition figures ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
