NDLEA intercepts cocaine shipments to UK and Australia

Nigeria’s anti-drug agency also seized ammunition, opioids and thousands of kilograms of cannabis in multiple operations across the country.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted cocaine shipments bound for the United Kingdom and Australia during a series of nationwide anti-drug operations.

The agency said its operatives also destroyed large cannabis farms, arrested several suspects and recovered illegal drugs in Delta, Kaduna, Ogun, Taraba, Oyo, Edo, Kano and the Federal Capital Territory.

In Delta State, NDLEA officers destroyed 37,500 kilograms of skunk spread across 15 hectares of farmland in Orogun village, Ughelli North Local Government Area. The agency said the total quantity destroyed in the operation rose to 65,000 kilograms with military support.

In Kaduna, operatives recovered 361kg of skunk and arrested a suspect, Husaini Suleiman. Along the Abuja-Kaduna highway, officials also intercepted 1,989 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition concealed inside bags of garri.

In Abuja, NDLEA arrested a businessman accused of producing drug-laced cakes and cookies for social events. Officers recovered 800 grams of skunk and 2.7kg of drug-infused cookies from his residence in Life Camp.

Additional raids in Ogun, Taraba, Oyo, Edo and Kano states led to the seizure of opioids, cannabis products and locally mixed substances known as skuchies.

The operations come as the NDLEA continues its War Against Drug Abuse campaign in schools and communities across Nigeria.

NDLEA Chairman Mohamed Buba Marwa praised officers involved in the operations and urged commands nationwide to sustain anti-drug enforcement and awareness efforts.
