The Ukrainian president has renewed calls for a face-to-face meeting with Vladimir Putin to seek a path to peace.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has proposed direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in a fresh attempt to end the war between Ukraine and Russia.
In an open letter released on Thursday, Zelensky urged Putin to engage in personal negotiations and called for a full ceasefire during any peace talks. He said waiting for international attention to return to the conflict was not the solution. He argued that peace could only be achieved through direct dialogue between both sides.
The Kremlin confirmed it had received the letter and said Putin would be briefed on its contents. However, the Russian leader earlier repeated his demands that Ukraine make territorial concessions, while ruling out a ceasefire under current conditions.
The proposal comes as peace negotiations remain stalled despite several rounds of talks in recent months. Zelensky suggested countries such as Switzerland or Turkey could host the meeting. US President Donald Trump publicly backed the idea of a summit between the two leaders.
With both sides still divided on key issues, the prospect of direct talks could become critical for future peace efforts.
